Due to a surplus of size P hooks and solid colored acrylic yarns, I have come up with another pattern for making the 8"x17" blankets we are making to donate to the Humane Society, as part of the Remembering Rowan Project. This size fits perfectly into the carriers cats will ride in when they are adopted.
PATTERN:
Hold 3 strands of worsted weight yarn together, working with a P hook.
Chain 16 (or number of stitches to measure 8").
Hdc in 2nd chain from hook, and each stitch across (14 Hdc).
Repeat for 23 rows or until blanket measures at least 17".
Finish off, don't weave in ends. Adjust.
I finished my first 7 in 7 Challenge on Sunday! Will start another round next week, during my Learn to Crochet Nights and Playdate on August 2nd and 3rd. If you are local and want to join us, message me for details.

Take The Cat Blanket Challenge!! 7 in 7!
Attention Knitters and Crocheters!
I challenge you to make SEVEN BLANKETS IN SEVEN DAYS!
I am half way there myself with 3 ½ blankets completed in the past few days (between making 2 dozen capes for a birthday party). How? These blankets only need to measure approximately 8”x 17”. That is the size of the box cats are sent home in from the Humane Society.

To Participate in the Challenge, here’s what to do:
Step 1: Find a few balls of leftover acrylic yarn or pick up a fun multicolor to combine with a couple solids. Any machine washable and dryable yarns will do. Great way to use up scraps. I have yarn if you are local.
Step 2: Knit or crochet 1 blanket each day for 7 days anytime in the next two weeks, using any stitch or pattern you like. These approximately 8”x17” blankets made with 2 strands and an N hook or large needles can work up in as little as half an hour. Make them while you watch TV or your kid’s soccer game. You don’t even need to weave in the ends, as the kitties like to play with them!
Step 3: Throw your completed blankets (even if it’s just 1 or 2) in a large envelope or box to mail to the Remembering Rowan Project, c/o MOMS Club of Camas, 3510 NE 3rd Avenue, #103, Camas, WA 98607 before August 10, 2010.
Step 4: Please send an email to let me know how many blankets you are sending, to crochetedcreations-rowan@yahoo.com.
That’s it!
These blankets will be used for THREE different good causes!!! Each Blanket will have a mini Remembering Rowan Project tag ironed onto it, to be donated in memory of our daughter Rowan on her 2nd birthday, August 10th. I like to think she would have liked kitties, as her baby sister Willow does. Then they will be delivered to the MOMS Club of Camas or Kazoodles Toy Store where they will Get Kids Reading by allowing children to choose 1 blanket to be donated in their name for every 2-5 books (depending on age) that they have read this summer. Finally, the blankets will go to the Humane Society here in Vancouver, WA to comfort a cat and go with them to their new home when they are adopted.

Please be a part of this next phase of the Remembering Rowan Project, and challenge yourself to make SEVEN IN SEVEN! Let’s see how many blankets we can collect before Rowan’s 2nd birthday in just 3 weeks.
